Obituary

Barbara "Babs" Jane Powell, 90, of Woodstock, GA entered into God's eternal care on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Tranquility of Cobb Hospice in Austell, GA.

Born January 10, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Santiago "Sam" and Ruth Minguez. She was the loving wife of Hubert "Huey" Joseph Powell, who celebrated their 69 th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2022. Barbara is now in heaven with Hubert, who passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

Barbara was a private secretary in her early twenties and worked for a drug company which she was very adamant when telling people about it. Her family and friends would joke and call her, "Dr. Powell" – LoL!

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Leslie Ann (Mike) Thompson of Dallas, GA. She had two grandsons, Michael P. (Lyndsy) Thompson II of Gainesville, GA, and Ryan Scott Thompson of Atlanta, GA, and two great-grandchildren, Lisabeth and Tucker Thompson.  She lost her only son, Michael Joseph Powell in 2007.

The family would like to extend their dearest appreciation to Bonnie Teal and Michael James of Woodstock, MD.  Bonnie and Michael became close friends of the family and Bonnie was known as their adopted daughter.

Barbara loved her beach house in Avalon, New Jersey, where she spent most of her summers since she was a young girl. She volunteered at various hospitals going from room to room with the gift cart. She enjoyed working out at Curves, loved line dancing and reading. She was smart and sharp as a tack, and claimed she was always right, although some may not totally agree that she was – LoL! She never sugar coated anything and told you exactly what was on her mind whether you wanted to hear it or not. She had a big heart and was a good friend to many.

She will be missed very much by her family and friends.
