Barry Allan Brass was born in New York, NY on January 3, 1943, and he passed away on January 1, 2021, in Woodstock, GA, after a brief battle with Covid-19. He was followed in death by his wife of 55 years, Arlene Cecelia (Lewis) Brass, 4 days after his passing.
After moving to California as a young child, Barry graduated from Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, CA before attending and graduating from San Jose State University with a business degree. During his college years in San Jose, he met Arlene, and they were married at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Santa Clara in 1965. After serving in the US Army, Barry began a long career with IBM that spanned over 40 years. His work enabled Barry and family to move to many parts of the United States including Georgia, Indiana and New York. In 1983, Barry and Arlene settled in Marietta, GA and made Georgia their home.
Barry is survived by his two children, Gregory (Greg) Matthew Brass (Holly) of Decatur, GA and Tyson Christopher Brass (Becky) of Lexington, KY, and five beautiful grandchildren; Annabelle Jane, Emmitt Christopher, Benjamin Matthew, Celia Marie, and Mary Lily Thompson, as well as a brother, Howard Brass, sister-in-law Robin Lewis of Lake Tahoe, CA, and niece Holly Hathaway. In passing Barry joins his parents, Stella Bernstein and Abraham Brass.
Barry had three passions in life: family, friends and travel. His love of family was unmatched and for those that were fortunate to be part of his life, he would always welcome others into his "family". When not spending time with family and friends, Barry and Arlene loved to travel the world and explore new places and experience new and different cultures. In their new home in Woodstock, GA, Barry was known to all neighbors as the "Goodwill Ambassador," and would spend his days making everyone's day a little brighter and sharing stories about his grandchildren, whom he loved so much.
While it has been unimaginable to lose Barry as well as Arlene, rather than be upset or angry, we want to remember the joy and love that they shared with all of us. They were married for over 55 years and were the perfect partners and complemented each other so well. Regardless of how you knew them, your life was happier because of them.
A private family service is being held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Friday, January 29, 2021, where Barry and Arlene will be interred together in their final resting place. A celebration of their lives will be planned at a later date, when it is again safe to gather.
We will miss you Mom and Dad but will honor you through living life to the fullest and sharing your passion and joy of life. To honor their legacy, donations may be made to:
