Bernadine Bigner Cantrell, 83, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, surrounded by her family. Bernadine was born in Hillsdale, Louisiana, and remained there through high school. She moved to Baton Rouge to attend business college. There, she met the love of her life, Wesley Eugene Cantrell, Sr.
Because she developed a close walk with the Lord, Bernadine devoted her life to the discipleship of others. She became a well-known Bible teacher, in Sunday School classes, women's ministries, and in the community. She wrote two books, Her Husband is Known in the Gates and Bending the Twig . She was active in mission trips with several international ministries. Her goal was "not just to be a signpost to Jesus, but to be a fork in the road."
Bernadine is survived by a family that loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. Her husband, Wes Cantrell, Sr. Her four children: Jamey (Allen) Wood, Kandy (Larry) Kimbrough, Wes (Jane) Cantrell, and Juli (Tim) Bethea, her 22 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Winnie and James Bigner.
Bernadine was unashamedly in love with her family and her Lord Jesus Christ, and she loved both with all her heart, mind, soul, and strength. There is a Visitation Saturday, June 12 from 3:00-5:30 pm at First Baptist Church Woodstock. Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Sunday, June 13 at 3 pm at First Baptist Church Woodstock, followed by a private family graveside service.
In lieu of traditional floral arrangements, the family requests live, potted plants to continue to grow Mrs. Cantrell's legacy.
