Obituary

With mixed emotions of sadness and joy, we announce the passing of Carolyn Clare Ostrowski. After many years of battling dementia, Carolyn passed away on April 29th, 2023 at the age of 81. She passed away quietly and is now at peace and with the Lord. Carolyn was born on July 27th, 1941 to loving parents August (Gus) and Clara Metzger of Stuttgart, Germany. She married her neighborhood sweetheart, Stephen, and had two children, Mark and Michael. The family moved to Atlanta in 1971. Carolyn worked in administration for a healthcare organization or over 30 years. She loved her job, she loved the people, and most importantly she loved helping others.

Carolyn was a wonderful mother, who would do anything for her children. While working full time, she lovingly took Mark and Michael wherever they needed to go and made sure to cook an amazing dinner. Even though the family moved away from extended family in New York City, she consistently cooked traditional German and Polish dishes. She was a rock for the family until the dementia took over. She is survived by her brother Gene Metzger of Palm Springs, CA, her niece Geralyn Sulkoski of Warminster, PA, and her son Michael Ostrowski and wife Amy Ostrowski of Roswell, GA. There are two grandchildren, Neal Ostrowski and Blake Ostrowski of Roswell, GA.

When Carolyn was not working or spending time with family, she was helping others. She was active in the Optimist Club of Smyrna, GA. The Optimist Club helps to make a brighter future and bring out the best in children. Additionally, her son Mark dealt with Epilepsy his whole life. She was always there for him and had a special place in her heart for the Epilepsy Foundation. Finally, through her work and church, Carolyn helped mission organizations obtain medical supplies.

The celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 8th at 1pm. The family will receive friends and family from 11am to 1pm. The service will be held at Lakeside Funeral Home Chapel.
