Ball Ground

Obituary

Cathy Roper of Ballground went home to be with the Lord on December 1, 2021 at Northside Hospital Cherokee after a brief illness.  Cathy was born Catherine Gail Standridge on August 6, 1953 in Blue Ridge, Georgia to her loving parents James Lake and Josephine Collins Standridge.  Her parents made sure she was in church from the earliest age and she came to know Jesus growing up at First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge. She started serving the Lord while still in high school and spent her entire life giving herself to bring others to know the Savior she loved so much.  She graduated from West Fannin High School in 1971, going to work and always making a difference in her workplaces.   On November 13, 1993, she married  DavidRoper-the man she knew God had made for her. Together, they worked tirelessly for the Lord, always putting the needs of others before their own.  As the perfect Pastor's wife, she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, hosted events, encouraged women's ministries and was always a help mate to David.  Though she never had children of her own, Cathy was a second mother to countless children through the years, always opening her home and her heart to them. She was also the perfect daughter, taking care of both her parents -making sure their needs were met through the last part of their lives. She also took care of David's Mother, giving her love and comfort as she came to live with them during the last days of her life.   She served in numerous churches, even before she met David, and she left an impression of faithfulness and love in each one of them.  Whatever role she took in life, she did her best and worked to do it right.  She was wife, daughter, friend, Nana, and Aunt Cathy, and each of those titles was earned with love. Her life was her testimony, and no one who spent any time with her could doubt she knew the Savior, and that He was Lord of her life.  Though her loved ones are heartbroken at her loss, they can rejoice in the knowledge that she is with the Lord, rejoicing in the heaven she waited her whole life to see.

Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Reverend David Roper of Ballground.  She is also survived her her Uncle Reverend W.L (Vera) Collins of Florence SC, Her cousins Bill(Jill) Collins of Columbia, SC, and Reverend John(Melanie)Collins of Florence, SC and their families .  She is also survived by her close friend and brother in the Lord, Brian Huffman of Blue Ridge, Ga.  She leaves behind countless other friends, relatives and loved ones.

Homegoing services will be at 12 noon, Saturday, December 4, in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Woodstock, GA, with visitation from 5 to 9 pm on Friday, December 3 at the Lakeside funeral home of Woodstock GA.  Mrs. Roper's pallbearers include Michael Wakefield, Dave Snyder, Clay Hitchcock, Bill Collins, Daniel Collins, and Strib Crump. Officiating will be Rev. W.L. Collins and Reverend John Collins, with music provided by Brian Huffman and Eric Tippens. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 pm at Chastain Park cemetery in Blue Ridge GA.  Flowers are welcome, but contributions may also be made in her memory to a Christian charity of your choice-continuing the Godly influence she began.
