Christine Hargett Beard passed away peacefully in her sleep at Brickmont Assisted Living in Woodstock, GA. on January 15, 2022, forty-seven days shy of her 94th birthday. She was born on March 3, 1928, in Marshville, NC to Bronnie Lee and Lillie Maude (Griffin) Hargett. She married the love of her life, Simrel Henderson Beard, on June 2, 1951. The newlyweds made Charlotte, NC their home before moving to Greenville, SC in 1960 where they raised their three children. She moved to Woodstock, GA in 2013 to be closer to her family.
Christine retired from Belk at McAlister Square in Greenville in the late 1990s where she worked in "ladies fine dresses" for years. She had a love for fashion and a keen eye for bargains. She loved to travel in her later years with family and celebrated her 80th birthday photographed beneath the iconic "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign. She toured Napa Valley wineries; saw a Broadway play and traveled to the top of the Statue of Liberty and World Trade Center twin towers in New York City; visited the White House and experienced Christmas at the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC; celebrated Independence Day watching a fantastic fireworks display while listening to the Boston Pops Orchestra; toured Maine, enjoyed some retail therapy in Freeport, and traveled on to Halifax, Nova Scotia. She adored the Atlanta Braves and Clemson Tigers. She had an amazing green thumb with flower and vegetable gardening, was an incredible cook and baker and gifted seamstress. But she would be quick to tell you her greatest accomplishment in life are her three children.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents, by her loving husband, Sim Beard; and by her sister, Evelyn (Hargett) Greene. She is survived by her three children, Gary Beard (Diane) of Woodstock, GA; Wanda Jeffcoat (Charles) of Port Royal, SC; and James Beard (April) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Kimberly Sciullo (Chip) of Woodstock, GA; Kyle Beard (Sarah) of Greenville, SC; Lauryn Beard and Landon Beard of Greenville, SC; great-grandchildren, Parker and Harper Clair Sciullo of Woodstock, GA and nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park Chapel, Greenville, SC on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 11:00 AM. Lakeside Funeral Home, Woodstock, GA is assisting with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MUST Ministries Cherokee, 141 East Marietta Street, Canton, GA 30114, or charity of your choice. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Brickmont Assisted Living.
Eternal rest grant unto Christine, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
