Obituary

Christopher "Chris" Michael Slater, age 49, of Woodstock, GA passed away suddenly on December 3, 2020. Chris was born on November 8, 1971 in Dekalb County, Georgia to Mike & Eleanor Slater.
Chris is survived by his parents Mike & Eleanor Slater of Dunwoody, GA; wife Tricia, daughters MacKay and Piper of Woodstock, GA; sister Kirsty and her children Hannah, Taylor and Ryan of Sanford NC; Aunts, Uncles and cousins too numerous to mention; brother-in-law Ken and his wife Leslie of Anderson, SC; brother-in-law Ray and his wife Jenifer of Lima, NY along with several additional nieces and nephews.
Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents and his brother-in-law Rick.
Chris worked as a Senior Systems Architect Principal at Georgia Tech Research Institute for the past 16 years. He loved his work and the people he worked with. It was challenging and meaningful to him. He developed many close friendships with those he worked with and spent time with several co-workers outside of work.
Chris told his Dad he felt especially blessed that Tricia handled all aspects of daily affairs which gave him more time to pursue his personal interests. These interests included spending time with friends including our cul-de-sac family, reading sci-fi such as Galaxy's Edge, listening to music like Rush and Audioslave and continuing to expand his knowledge on almost any subject possible, although history and astronomy were his favorite subjects. He was an avid online gamer and enjoyed World of Warcraft and Path of Exile. More recently he joined the online gaming group "Angels of the Warp (AotW)" and Star Citizen was the most recent game he enjoyed playing. He met many other gamers online and was able to form some lasting friendships from all over the world.
While his interests kept him occupied, his girls and wife were the most important people in his life. He loved his family; they were the center of his world. He often said his job was to swipe his card, cheer the loudest and give the biggest hugs. He was so proud of his girls, all their talents and accomplishments and was always there to cheer them on. From participating in halftime routines with them during elementary school basketball games, watching anime with his younger to jumping up and down behind the camera making faces while his older was having her driver's license picture taken. He loved his wife, beyond words, their bond was unbreakable.
Chris had a wonderful and sometimes quirky sense of humor, was a lover of memes which he would share in his many different group texts and whenever he got together with his Dad. He loved Alabama football and took great pride in humorously proselytizing about the SEC to all fans of the weaker NCAA conferences.
He was laid back, down to earth, easy to get along with and loved by all that had the opportunity to know him. Chris never met a stranger and had a unique ability to form lasting relationships with many people in his life including Alex, Bryan, Sam and many others.
