Clarence Wesley Wellman passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 8, 2018 at his home in Woodstock, Georgia at the age of 73. He was a devoted husband and an exemplary, generous, and loving father and grandfather.
Clem was born on November 15, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois to Fern and Vivian Wellman. He graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1962, and attended Lake Forest College before proudly serving in the US Army from 1964-1967. In 1967 he married Carol Jean Rosenberg, and together they raised three sons: Marc, Matthew, and Michael. He is survived by his wife, three sons, six grandchildren–Rachel, Conrad, Marc, Jason, Vivian, and Florence, niece–Janel, great-niece–Taylor, and great-nephew–Jack.
He worked hard to provide for his family, which was the most important thing to him. He was also passionate about chess, a game he studied for nearly his entire life. He enjoyed playing many other games with family and friends. He loved to read, especially about history, politics, sports, and chess, because he had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and fascinating or entertaining anecdotes. His unshakable optimism along with his quick wit and good-natured sense of humor endeared him to many. After retiring he traveled the world with his wife and spent time teaching children how to play chess, including his own grandchildren.
The family will be holding a private event at Lakeside Funeral Home in Woodstock, Georgia in the morning on November 13, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
