Dick Jacobsen of Woodstock, GA passed peacefully from home to heaven on October 1, 2021. He was 84.
Dick was born in Brooklyn, NY on 7/7/37, an easily remembered date that he was proud to share. He was the oldest of three brothers and resided on Long Island until he left for Hobart College in Geneva, NY.
He met the love of his life, Peggy Black, when she arrived to attend William Smith College on the same campus. Dick graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. He and Peggy were married on October 24 of that year and they began their life together.
Dick's service in the Navy required a move to Jacksonville, FL where their oldest daughter was born. After his honorable discharge, Dick began his career in sales and the family made several moves up and down the East Coast. Dick flourished in his vocation (he never met a stranger!) and was a sharp-dressed man thanks to his roles in the men's clothing industry, from which he retired.
Dick loved to travel, with Australia being his favorite international location. But he was just as happy on the beach, riding the waves with his children and then his grandchildren.
Golf was his passion and he loved regaling Peggy (and anyone who would listen!) of his experiences on the links. Dick had two holes-in-one during his lifetime and "shot his age" so many times he stopped counting, much to the annoyance of his two sons. He fulfilled his dream of playing Augusta National in 2011 and was thrilled to play courses in Scotland as well.
Dick was devoted to his family and we all felt the great love he had for us. He will be deeply missed. He leaves behind his caring wife of 62 years, Peggy; children Donna (Bob), Chris (Nancy), Tom (Elizabeth); grandchildren Dan (Lauren), Ben (Krisztina), Emily, Cole, Brody, Andy, Maggie, Luke; and great-grandchildren Charlotte and Aubrey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Junior Golf Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf.
