Always working his way to the top, Edward soon became the Executive Director of The National Association for Music Therapy (NAMT) in Washington, DC, where he served from 1982 until his retirement in 1990. After that, he chose to move to San Francisco, CA where he earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in Organizational Psychology from the Alliant International University.
