Obituary

Elizabeth Dehm Schweikhardt Wrath was born March 8, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey. Her parents were Henry Francis Dehm and Helen Marie Carter. She is survived by her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elizabeth is preceded in death by both her parents. Elizabeth was known as Betty her whole life. She grew up in East Orange, New Jersey. Betty died on April 11, 2024 in Chattanooga TN.

Most of Betty's family lived in and around Newark NJ so she grew up surrounded by her family. Betty was definitely a Jersey Girl. She had no siblings but loved her cousin Nanette Burgmeyer as a sister. Elizabeth was born into a strong Catholic Family and attended Catholic schools as a child. She went to Mount St. Dominic Academy and later Caldwell College that functioned both as a college and a preparatory school for nuns. Betty loved to sing, play the piano and be involved with theater events. Elizabeth married John Andrew Schweikhardt of Maplewood NJ on September 17, 1958. Together they had 4 children: Helen Marie Schweikhardt (Robin Bemis) born on July 7, 1959; Mary Elizabeth (James Carney) born on July 21,1960. James John Schweikhardt (Margaret Simmington) born on May 21,1963, and Angeline Patricia Schweikhardt (Duane Hill) born on April 8, 1965. Betty had her hands full with 4 children in 6 years. When the children were getting ready to start school, the family moved to Maplewood, New Jersey where they lived for 6 years. During that time, Betty stayed busy in community groups including the Maplewood and New Jersey Women's club where she served on the state board as secretary for several years. In 1969, John Schweikhardt received a promotion which required the family to move to Atlanta Georgia in 1970. The family settled in Dunwoody Georgia. While living in Dunwoody, John and Betty enjoyed playing golf and other activities at the Dunwoody country club. Betty joined the Dunwoody Community Theater group. She was involved with the theater group and did many shows and activities with them.

Betty liked to move. As a family, Betty would want to move to different houses about every three to six years. In 1976 John and Elizabeth got a divorce and Elizabeth started working. She studied secretarial skills at Caldwell College and was an excellent secretary and personal assistant. At that time, Elizabeth met the love of her life James Richard Wrath. Betty and Jim dated for several years and married July 5, 1980, in Chamblee Georgia. After Betty and Jim married, they moved to Tipp City, Ohio and lived there for several years. In 1988, mom and Jim decided that they wanted to open a donut shop near Prescot Arizona. Mom and Jim lived around Prescot Arizona for years. They then decided to move to Salt Lake City, Utah. Betty got a job with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in their accounting department and Jim worked for AT&T. Eventually Betty got a promotion and was one of President Gordan B. Hinckley's secretaries, a job that she loved. Mom and Jim settled in Bountiful Utah and volunteered in the Bountiful temple for a brief time. Mom also served in the Mesa Arizona Temple and the Atlanta Georgia Temple.

Elizabeth missed being around her children and grandchildren, so they moved back to Georgia and eventually settled in Woodstock Georgia. They lived in Woodstock, Georgia for many years and enjoyed the friends they made. A few years ago, age caught up with them and Jim had to be moved to a nursing home. After Jim's death in 2022, it was decided that Betty could not live alone, and she moved in with her daughter Angeline Hill in Ringgold Georgia. In May of 2023, Betty moved to Morning Point Assisted Living. She loved living there and being involved in numerous activities. Elizabeth died on April 11, 2024 and will be missed by her friends and family. At the end surrounded by her family, she kept saying that Jim was waiting for her, and she needed to get to him. There is no doubt that there was a wonderful reunion in heaven with her many family members waiting for her.
