Obituary

Gertrude Martinez DeLitta peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at her home in Canton, GA, surrounded by her loved ones. Gertrude was born in Gallup, New Mexico on July 17, 1937 to Jacob and Clara Martinez. She was the third oldest of 12 children. She had the fondest memories of all her family and loved them dearly. She met her husband of 54 years, Robert James DeLitta, while he was on active duty at Continental Divide Air Force Station in New Mexico. She married Robert, moved to Mamaroneck, NY, and later settled at their home in Larchmont, NY. Along with being a devoted wife and faithful follower of Christ, there was nothing as important as family. She was a patient, caring, and thoughtful mother. She had a creative and methodical mind with a great sense of humor. In addition to raising her three children, Gertrude maintained the household along with being an avid seamstress and craftsperson creating many handmade custom quilts and clothing. She was passionate about her God, her country, and protecting the unborn. Gert and Bob retired to Myrtle Beach in 1994. In 2018 Gertrude moved to Canton, Georgia to live with her daughter after the death of her husband.

Gertrude is predeceased by her loving husband, Robert, her parents, Jacob and Clara (Garcia) Martinez, her brothers John Philip Martinez, Jacob Martinez Jr., Patrick Martinez and sister Louise Martinez. She is survived by her children James DeLItta (Alisa), June Ann LIbertino (Michael), and Joanie Geiger (John), grandchildren Steven DeLitta, Robert DeLitta, Adam DeLItta, Krista McGuire (Ryan), Jessica Libertino, Anna Downey (Brian), John Geiger IV, Brennan Geiger, Andrew Geiger, and Daniel Geiger, as well as 6 great-grandchildren. She will be forever cherished in our hearts
