Hubert "Huey" Joseph Powell, 89, of Woodstock, GA entered into God's eternal care on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at his Merrill Gardens home in Woodstock, GA.

Born August 15, 1933, in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of Hubert and Josephine Powell.  He was the loving husband of Barbara Jane Minguez Powell, who celebrated their 69 ^th wedding anniversary on February 14, 2022.

Huey served in the US Army just after being married to Barbara "Babs" in 1953, and the rumor is that the Korean war ended just as he boarded the naval ship for deployment.  We think that they were afraid of his vicious latrine duties.

Huey is survived by his wife, Barbara Powell; his daughter, Leslie Ann (Mike) Thompson of Dallas, GA; and brother Richard "Dick" Powell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He had two grandsons, Michael P. (Lyndsy) Thompson II of Gainesville, GA, and Ryan Scott Thompson of Atlanta, GA, and two great-grandchildren, Lisabeth and Tucker Thompson.  He lost his only son, Michael Joseph Powell in 2007.

The family would like to extend their dearest appreciation to Michael James and Bonnie Teal of Woodstock, MD.  Huey always called Bonnie his "Angel", as she became a close friend of the family and was known as his adopted daughter.

Huey was an avid golfer, loved line dancing, and deep-sea fishing with his daughter, Leslie.  He never met a stranger, had the biggest heart, and always wore a smile.  He was one of the most positive individuals you would ever have met, and never, never missed a meal.
