Jasper "James" Edward Hardwick, age 80 of Woodstock, Georgia passed away October 3, 2018 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. Jim was born on August 8, 1938 in Jefferson City, Missouri and was the only child of Verna Welch Hardwick and his father James Jackson Hardwick.
Jim was married to Joan Stettler Hardwick and recently celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary in September. Jim and Joan raised three children together, Gretchen Hardwick Hennen, Patrick Morgan Hardwick and Jason Miles Hardwick.
Jim moved several times in his childhood due to his father's career in heavy construction and ultimately landed in Rochester Minnesota. Jim attended and graduated from Lourdes High School in Rochester where he met Joan and proposed to her upon his graduation. Shortly after graduation, Jim and Joan purchased their first home with Jim's career being in office machine repair. The young couple had their first children, Gretchen and Patrick in Rochester. In 1966, Jim's career took the family to Dodge City Kansas before settling in the Chicago suburbs later that year. In Chicago, Jim held various roles with technology firms managing the Midwest market and overseeing operations for SCM. In 1982, the family moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia where he was tasked with opening and leading the southeast sales, support and operations for Novell. In 1984, Jim and a few professional colleagues branched out from Novell and founded a software development firm, OptiDoc, which he ran and subsequently retired from in 2006. Jim and Joan moved from Stone Mountain to their current residence in Woodstock, Georgia in 2013. Jim had a green thumb and enjoyed planting and growing beautiful things around their home. This was a trait that trickled down from his father. Jim could fix anything, except for plumbing, and enjoyed the challenge to repair anything electrical. His wife, Joan collects clocks and he enjoyed repairing those as well as adjusting them twice each year for daylight savings time. Jim enjoyed watching football and claimed to be a Chicago Bears fan but secretly pulled for the Green Bay Packers.
Jim is survived by his wife, Joan, his daughter, Gretchen, and his son Jason. Jim now joins his oldest son, Patrick Morgan Hardwick who passed away in 2012. Jim was blessed with four grandchildren and is survived by all of them: Ashley Hennen of Detroit, Michigan, Katie Hennen of Chicago, Illinois, Nick Hennen of Canton, Michigan and Lauren Hardwick of Woodstock, Georgia.
Jim was a friendly man who made everyone laugh. He never met a stranger. He was charming and witty. Once someone met Jim, he was not forgotten. He made a lasting impression everywhere he went. Jim will be missed by many people!
