James "Jim" Peter Hayes was born on April 26, 1950, in Lewiston Maine to Thomas and Loraine Hayes. Jim passed on October 4, 2021, at the age of 71 in Canton, Georgia. Jim fought a forty-two month battle with stage four colon cancer. Jim passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Jim grew up in South Portland, Maine and at the age of sixteen, he and his family moved to Moses Lake, Washington. The family did not like the change, so when a job opportunity was offered in Kansas City, Jim's father jumped at the opportunity. Jim graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 1968. He went to the University of Kansas where he earned an associate's degree. Jim met the love of his life, Janice, while he attended Kansas University and she attended Shawnee Mission South High School. On July 9, 1971, the two were married, and they were soon blessed with their two sons, Robert "Bob" Hayes and Mark Hayes.
While Jim left us too soon, he lived a full and happy life. Jim had the gift of gab that served him well when he sold cars at Pompano Lincoln Mercury, where he received many sales awards. Jim purchased Wallace Stripe and Trim in 1981 from Mr. Wallace. Jim loved having his own business and enjoyed striping cars all over the Atlanta metro area. Jim had a great work ethic and always was a good provider. Jim had a passion for cars as anyone that knew him would testify. He loved making them special with all the graphics that he created on his computer. He loved going to work and talking to all the dealership employees. Twelve years ago, Jim obtained his real estate license so he could help his wife, Janice, with her real estate business when he wasn't busy striping cars. He was a great support to Janice's business and was well[1]liked around the office. Jim never met a stranger; he was always interested in people and learning what made them tick. Jim had the most positive attitude, and he was always encouraging and motivating to people wherever he went.
Jim was a talented musician and loved playing his guitar. He first picked up the guitar when he was just a teenager and was in a band named "Butterscotch Valley Freight Train" in the late 1960s. Jim had a very good voice and was always singing and whistling. He never stopped playing his guitar and played until the very end. He loved all kinds of music, from rock 'n' roll to country. Nothing made him happier than playing guitar for his grandchildren and having them singalong. Jim loved to fish. He fished in lakes, rivers, and oceans. He passed down that passion to his sons. The house in which Bob and Mark were raised was on a small lake, and on most days, Jim would come home from work, grab a fishing pole and his boys, and they were 'gone fishin'!
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Thomas, and his mother, Larraine. He is survived by his wife, Janice; two sons Robert "Bob" and Mark; Bob's wife Laura and their four children: Ciana, Ian, Serphina, Hannalee; Mark's wife Kristen and their two daughters: Gracie and Abigail; Jim's five brothers: Michael, Stephen, Timothy, Daniel, and David; and many beloved nephews and nieces.
