Jane Frances Gallow, a 69-year-old resident of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. A wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Jane was born and raised in South Africa to Bernice and Peter Monahan. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Andrew Gallow. Jane is survived by her three children, Sheila Gallow (Mollie), Catherine Larkins (Phillip), Michael Gallow (Katie), her grandchildren Graham, Lexi, Kennedy, and Sam, her five siblings Patrick, Thomas, Susan, Frances, and Mary Ann, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jane would hate a boring obituary as she was anything but boring. She never did anything half-assed, and would certainly not appreciate a "normal" farewell note. If you are wondering if you ever met Jane, you did not because you would undoubtedly remember her commanding presence. For those of you who did have the pleasure of knowing Jane, she likely offended you at some point. Jane was world-renowned for not holding back and telling it like it is. She cursed like a sailor was oftentimes politically incorrect (and very much proud of it). Her outgoing personality and quirky sense of humor were contagious to everyone she met. To know her was to love her and to accept her eccentricities, avant-garde approach to life, and unchecked passion.
Jane devoted herself to recovery and helping others. She volunteered her time to help those struggling with addiction and spent countless hours at Mary Hall Freedom House. If there was anyone in need, she would be there to help without any hesitation or question. She loved deeply, lived fiercely, and gave freely. Jane was a force of nature. She never met a stranger, a rule she couldn't break, a boundary she couldn't push, a line she couldn't cross, or a story she couldn't stretch. You most always heard her before you saw her. She had the loudest laugh, the biggest hats, the brightest kaftans, and was always adorned with over-the-top jewelry. She loved coffee, brandy, cigarettes, hats that barely fit through doors, arranging flowers, and gemstones. Her larger-than-life personality reflected the brilliance of tanzanite – fierce and fiery.
Jane was unashamedly herself. She wore her heart on her sleeve, and you always knew where you stood with her. As a mother lion, her children were her biggest and proudest accomplishments. As a grandmother lion, Graham, Lexi, Kennedy, and Sam were her pride and joy. She will very much be missed by her family and friends. At the end of the day, if you can hear Jane in your ears yelling something inappropriate and laughing hysterically, her earthly mission was accomplished.
