Obituary

Jim Pentecost was born to Alma and George Pentecost on December 3, 1933, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. On July 12, 2026, at the age of 92, he peacefully went home to be with the Lord. Jim leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his devoted wife of nearly 58 years, Jerrie; daughters Debra and her husband, Bob, Janna and her husband, Brian, and Amy and her husband, Greg; six grandchildren, Shanna, Jarryd, Brynnan, Tyler, Nathan, and Joel; and one great-granddaughter, Izzy.

After graduating from Texas State University, then known as Southwest Texas State Teachers College, Jim began his career teaching band in the New Braunfels Independent School District in New Braunfels, Texas. After ten years of teaching, he began his own landscaping business, Pentecost Sprinkler Service, in Austin, Texas.

In addition to running his business, Jim began teaching a required Landscape Irrigation class for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in 1995. He continued teaching the course for 20 years before retiring and moving to Woodstock. Jim and Jerrie attended Jack Campbell's Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Woodstock until Jim's declining health made it difficult for him to attend.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and George Pentecost, and four siblings: Joe Pentecost, Nona Scrivano, Thelma Viola, and Mary Reid.

Jim loved all things outdoors—which made his career in irrigation a natural fit. Even in retirement, he was rarely content to sit still. On almost any day, he could be found gardening, working in the yard, or tinkering in the shed he built himself at the age of 80. His love of classical music was often heard throughout the property as he worked outside, providing the soundtrack to his many projects.

Jim will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his enjoyment of classical music, his strong work ethic, and his dedication to the things that mattered to him. He leaves behind many memories his family and all who knew him will cherish.
