Obituary

Mr. Jimmy T. Long, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and community servant, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, hard work, and devotion to the people and places he held dear.

Born in Woodstock, Georgia, on June 22, 1943, along what was then a dirt road on Highway 92, Jimmy had a lifelong love for his hometown and was proud to call Woodstock home. He served 12 years with the Woodstock Downtown Development Authority, serving as Chairman for much of that time.

Faith was at the heart of Jimmy's life. A fourth-generation member and Life Member of Little River Methodist Church, he faithfully served in nearly every position throughout his lifetime. Jimmy and the Long family shared a deep love for Little River and devoted many years to improving and caring for its historic church building.

Jimmy was also a 60-year Mason and Past Master of Lodge 246. The men he served alongside were more than fellow Masons, they were truly his brothers.

His career carried him beyond Georgia. In Atlanta, Jimmy began working at Life of Georgia at age 17 and eventually became Manager of the Data Processing Department. Later, in Nashville, Tennessee, he became a partner in three publishing companies and an independent recording label specializing in Southern Gospel and Country music. Among the groups connected with his work were the Chuck Wagon Gang and the Rupps.

In 1998, Jimmy started US Whirlpool in Holly Springs, Georgia, building the wholesale company from the ground up. It remains open today, sustained by people Jimmy considered family and by the same spirit of hard work and relationships that defined his life.

In his semi-retirement, Jimmy and his wife, Julie, moved to St. Simons Island, a place he lovingly called "paradise." He cherished the island and its people, serving on the Ocean Walk Homeowners Association Board and as a Golden Isles Hospice Volunteer.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Julie Long; children Brad Long (Donna), Angela Martin (Chad), Ray Branch (Eileen), and Justin Branch; grandchildren Catherine, Anna, Ryan, Addy, and Hadley; and sister-in-law Deborah Long. He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron and Odie Mae Long, and his brother, Roger Long.

Jimmy will be remembered for his generous heart, steadfast faith, love of family, devotion to his community, and the many friendships he made along the way. He believed in serving others, caring for the places he loved, and treating people like family.

In honor of Jimmy and his lifelong love for Little River Methodist Church, donations may be made to the Jimmy Long Memorial Fund at Little River Methodist Church, P.O. Box 646, Woodstock, GA 30188.

His life was well lived, his love was deeply felt, and his memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him.
