Joe Price "Coach" Pittman, 81, of Canton, Georgia passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021, from complications after a valiant fight with cancer.

A lifelong Georgian, Price was born on February 4, 1940, in Blakely, Georgia.  He received an undergraduate and master's degree from Georgia Southern.

Following his education, Price went on to coach football and teach at Lakeshore High School, Feldwood High School, Jonesboro High School, and Douglas City High School.  Awarded "Teacher of the Year" and "Coach of the Year", he inspired and was loved by students, players, and colleagues.

With a generous heart and a passion for others, Price spent much of his time assisting fellow coaches and serving in his community.  He enjoyed extensive travel with his wife, Roxanne.  He also enjoyed spending time with his many friends, watching classic movies, deep-sea fishing, birdwatching, and studying the civil war.  Friends will remember his indelible sense of humor.

He particularly enjoyed the holiday classic, "A Christmas Story" and the writings of fellow Georgian, Lewis Grizzard.

Price is survived by his wife, Roxanne Pittman, children, Bradford Pittman, Shelley Jacobs (John), and Leslie Todd, grandchildren, Mya, Parker, Max, and Bailey, sister, Kay Phelps (Preston), Aunt Iva McFather, several nieces and nephews, former wife Sandra Pittman, stepdaughter Beth Tuttle (Jim) and step-grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexander.

Price is predeceased, by his parents Joe H. and Gladys Hudgins Pittman, as well as his brother, Larry Pittman.

The American philosopher, William James, said, "The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it".

A memorial service celebrating Price's wonderful and far-reaching legacy will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Lakeside Funeral Home. If desired, a donation in Price's name can be made to the American Kidney Fund .
