John Ray Bradberry, age 77, passed peacefully at the Wellstar-Kennesaw hospital in Marietta, Georgia, on May 5, 2024. He was a wonderful, loving, hard-working father, friend and husband. He loved the Lord and made it known that he was ready to go. He kept his family in church, and they all remain loyal believers to this day. He was generous and contributed to various needs, projects. He was gifted with a unique and beautiful voice. When the neighbor's mother, who loved Elvis Presley, came into town, they would ask him to come over and sing Elvis Presley songs to her. There was never a time that she did not cry when John sang. He would also sing solos in the church, at weddings, and at other events and even had an invitation to sing on TBN.
John grew up in Santa Fe Springs, California, where he attended and graduated from Santa Fe Springs High School. His favorite childhood sport was baseball, and coaching Little League would eventually become his favorite pastime. John also found the time and strength to become a reserve police officer. Following graduation, John was drafted by the Army and became a Master Marksmen. He survived two tours in Vietnam but was tragically unaware that he would bring home Agent Orange. In the ensuing years, it manifested in several forms: non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, diabetes, melanoma, defib, and several other health related conditions. Over a period of approximately 22 years, the diseases progressed and took their toll. John endured numerous chemo treatments and underwent several surgeries. Treatments became grueling and agonizing, and he suffered greatly. Nevertheless, John stayed strong and was able to begin and end his career with Ralph's Grocery Company of California. He was given many opportunities for advancement and was proud of his accomplishments.
His children, grandchildren and one great grandchild were his source of strength and endurance during the tough times. Their laughter, joy, and unconditional love became his inspiration and reason for living.
John was an outdoorsman. He found solace in camping so much so that he joined two separate groups: the Good Sam RVers and the Tri-State Travelers. He looked forward to the barbecues, potlucks, games, camaraderie, and especially storytelling around the campfire. He had a keen sense of humor and could deliver a one liner at the perfect moment. He was president of the Tri-State Travelers three times and made many strong and lasting friendships.
John is survived by his loving wife and partner in life of 55 years, Dorothy, his two daughters Lisa Marie and Denise Colleen Frey (Michael), sister Lois Bradberry-Owsiany, (AJ) grandchildren Natalie Dobbs-Huddleston (Cody), Jonathan James Dobbs, Kaylie Czap-Zitting (Jesse) and their daughter Ellie, Emylie Czap-Heller (Josiah), Julie Czap, son in love Richard Czap, numerous loving family members, many loyal friends, and finally, the family dog "Buddy".
John was preceded in death by his father, Otis Bradberry, mother, Joyce Dalton-Bradberry-Kemp, and his brother, Patrick Bradberry. John was interned at the Georgia National Cemetery.
The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that you contribute to his life by sharing a memory of our beloved John Bradberry on the Lakeside funeral home memorial website.
