Obituary

John Wayne Curenton, 82, of Woodstock, GA passed away on November 5, 2022. The service will be held on Thursday, November 10th at Lakeside Funeral Home in Woodstock, GA. Visitation will be at 2:00 pm and the service will be held at 3:00 pm.

Wayne was born on May 8, 1940, in Panama City, FL to his late mother, Willie D. (Montgomery) Curenton and father, James Wesley Curenton. He was brother to the late Dwight C. Curenton. He graduated from Bay High School in 1958. He entered Gulf Coast College in Panama City to earn his AA Degree. He went on to complete his bachelor's degree at Florida State University in June of 1962.

Wayne joined the US Army Reserves in April of 1962 and served until 1967. He was assigned to the 160th Military Police Battalion and trained at Fort Leavenworth, KS, and several other army stockades. He was honorably discharged without being deployed.

Wayne had a very successful sales and marketing career with Procter and Gamble for over 27 years, working in Tallahassee, Jacksonville, and Orlando.

Wayne married the love of his life in 1967. He was married to Rosalyn (Hall) Curenton, and together they were blessed with two daughters Carla (Curenton) Armstrong of Palm Coast, FL, and Kimberly (Curenton) Carbia of Canton, GA. He was a grandfather to 4 (Billy and Blake Armstrong and Taylor and Jordan Carbia).

Wayne came to know the Lord in the 7th grade. His biological father passed away at an early age, but God would provide several strong male mentors that helped shape Wayne's faith and work ethic for the rest of his life. Wayne served as a deacon in many churches throughout his life. The last 12 years he and his wife have been faithful members of First Baptist Woodstock, GA.

After retirement Wayne and Rosalyn bought and remodeled a pre-civil war home and opened a bed & breakfast. They called it the Rose Inn and were blessed to provide hospitality to many patrons from all around the world.

Wayne enjoyed the beach, the mountains, traveling abroad, and studying history, politics, and world religions. He took great pleasure in FSU sports, substitute teaching, antiquing, but most importantly Wayne cherished spending time with family and fellowship with friends.

Wayne was named for the celebrity John Wayne, and just like the Hollywood character, he was known for his courage and strength and always loved unconditionally.

In addition to being an amazing father and faithful husband for 55 years, he will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, dimples, blue eyes, and his loving heart. All who crossed Wayne's path were immensely blessed.
