Kathleen "Kathy" Owen Lewis of Dawsonville, Georgia, passed away in her home
unexpectedly on January 31, 2023.
Kathy was born on November 12, 1944, to James and Mona Owen in Cleveland,
Tennessee. After graduating from Maury high school in Dandridge, Tennessee in
1960, Kathy went on to earn her bachelor's degree in elementary education from
the University of Tennessee. Later, Kathy earned her master's degree in
elementary education from Georgia State University and taught elementary and
pre-school school for a number of years.
In 1966 Kathy met her future husband, Richard Lewis, in Atlanta, Georgia. Kathy
and Richard went on to have two children, Ashley and Scott.
Kathy was a Christian, and most important in life to her was her faith in Jesus
Christ. Kathy loved sharing personal stories of faith and how The Lord worked
through her in her daily life.
Kathy had many hobbies and interests, including gardening, reading, and sewing,
but her most favorite of all was singing in the church choir. Kathy was most
recently a member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia where she
was active in Sunday school and choir.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents James and Mona Owen and sister
Roberta Owen. Kathy is survived by her loving husband Richard Lewis, daughter
Ashley Lewis, son Scott Lewis, sister Caroline Planells, and sister Shirley Shepherd.
Services will be held at Lakewood Baptist Church, located at 2235 Thompson
Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia on Sunday, February 5 th at 2:30 p.m.
