Lawrence T. Merchant, of Woodstock, GA passed away peacefully March 13, 2023. He entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family.

Lawrence (Larry) was born December 15, 1945 in Washington DC and was preceded in death by his father Lawrence T. Merchant Sr. and his mother Virginia Shaw. He attended St. John's College High School (class of 1963) and Mount St. Mary's University (class of 1967).

Larry worked for many years as an Account Manager as well as in Sales of Chemical Surfactants.  He was affectionately referred to as the "Soap Man." He retired in 2014 from Lubrizol. Larry was a practical joker and had a hilarious sense of humor. His infectious laugh was easily recognizable. His love of cooking and grilling, electronics, books, sci-fi, cats, music, and family will always live on.  He also loved going to the beach and swimming at the pool and shared many fond beach trip memories throughout the years with his family.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sarah F. Merchant (Libby); 2 daughters, Rebecca Merchant (Brad) and Laura Alexander (Bill); 2 stepdaughters, Laura Hart (Kenny) and Wendy Drought; stepson Michael Estes (Candace); and 9 grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Grandbear."  Family was everything to Larry, and he loved us all deeply.

While Larry's family grieves his loss, we choose to remember him in a way that honors his spirit.  His family would like to invite the community to join them in a Celebration of Life Ceremony. The ceremony will take place at Mountain View United Methodist Church (2300 Jamerson Rd, Marietta, GA 30066) Saturday March 25 at 1:00 pm.  The family will be there to welcome guests before the service.
