Lester Ellis of Woodstock, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 5, 2023. He was born on November 23, 1932, in Shell Creek, Tennessee to David Charles Ellis and Julie Mae Perry Ellis and just recently celebrated his 91st birthday.
He is preceded in death by his parents and late wife of 64 years, Glenda Ellis. Also preceding him were his brothers, Ray Ellis, Frank Ellis, Charles Ellis, Carroll Ellis, Dale Ellis and sisters Helen Ledford, Martha Young, Elizabeth Winters, and his twin sister, Lessie Turbyhill.
He is survived by his current wife, Dot White and his three sons, Rick (Shannon), Steve (Elzena), and Allen (Ann). He also has a surviving sister, Clara Jean Heaton (Walter). He is survived by five grandchildren, Brenna, Amanda (Ronnie), Jason (Laura), Natalie, James, and eight great-grandchildren.
As a young man, Lester served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. He married his first wife, Glenda, in 1953, and their family eventually moved to Marietta, Georgia. He was a committed husband and a tremendous Father and Papa to his family. His property in Marietta was the family's favorite gathering place, filled with love and treasured memories. He and Glenda made their legacy by putting their family first and loving each other well. After the loss of Glenda, Lester moved to Woodstock, Georgia where he met his current wife, Dot White. Lester and Dot made many friends and were involved in leading their retirement center's weekly Bible studies together. Lester was a committed member of Woodstock Community Church (now Real Life Christian Church), where he served faithfully in their food pantry and around the grounds.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation would be made to the food pantry at Real Life Christian Church in Woodstock, Georgia. Please mark your donation with "In Memory of Lester Ellis".
