It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lewis McDowell, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who met Jesus on April 23, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born on October 10, 1942, Mary was the heart and soul of her family, embodying love, kindness, and resilience in all that she did. Her warmth and unwavering support shaped the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A devoted mother, she dedicated her life to nurturing and guiding "her boys" with wisdom and compassion. Her laughter filled the room, and her gentle spirit brought comfort to all who crossed her path. Her endless encouragement left a mark on the hearts of those she loved.
Mary was a prayerful, Godly woman, and she was passionate about singing (especially old Southern gospel hymns), artwork, and teaching preschool children about the love of Jesus before she retired. She found joy in the simple moments and shared love generously. She faced life's challenges with grace, finding strength in her faith, family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father - Louise and Lacy Lewis, her sister - Geraldine Locklear, her brothers - Harry and Brian Lewis, and her husband - Henry McDowell.
She is survived by three sons: George Carlson, Alan Carlson (his wife, Susan), and Rick Carlson (his wife, Jackie), and her grandchildren: Kelly, Katie, Daniel and Michael.
Graveside services will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery on Sunday, April 27th at 2 PM.
Flowers are appreciated and can be sent to Cooper Funeral Home, 209 Black Branch Rd, Dillon, SC 29536, or alternatively, Mary would have loved to know a donation was made in her honor to Dillon Church of God for their children's ministry. She had a passion for children and would love to know she was able to bless their ministry as she went home.
