Mary Ann Shope, 93, of Cumming, Georgia, known for her deep faith, kind heart, easy laugh, and quick wit, passed away on January 4, 2024.
Ann was born on August 14, 1930 in Rockmart, Georgia to James David Britt and Sophronie Barrett Britt (Fronie Hughes). She was raised with two sisters, Susan Ashley and Linda Armstrong, and a brother, Emory Hughes, all who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Rockmart High School and later attended Brunswick Junior College. Always active, she worked in a variety of fields, including church secretary, bookkeeper, military transport facilitator, hospital volunteer and, with a dear friend, Jean Thornton, she co-owned and ran Southern Scents Atlanta Company. Ann was a member of Cumming First United Methodist Church and the Christian Outlaws Sunday School class.
Married twice, first to Bill Poss and later to Lee Shope (both deceased), she had only one daughter, Debbie Poss, but many dogs. She leaves behind Debbie, Debbie's husband, Don Slater and 15-year-old dog, Clancy. She and Debbie were always best friends, but Ann was loved by everyone who met her, and will be missed by all.
