Mat Telfer, a beloved neighbor and cherished friend to so many, passed away recently. He had a warmth and openness that made everyone feel welcome. Whether you were a longtime resident or new to the block, Mat greeted you with a smile and treated you like family. He truly didn't know a stranger.
An animal lover at heart, Mat brought joy to many with his love for pets and the comfort they provided in the neighborhood. He had a gift for bringing people together. His legendary 4th of July celebrations in the cul-de-sac were neighborhood highlights—spectacular displays and gatherings that rivaled any professional event. Neighbors looked forward to them every year, knowing they would be filled with laughter, good food, and community spirit.
Those who knew him well will remember his unique sense of humor. Mat always had a fresh dad joke ready or a playful remark designed to get a reaction. His quick wit and lighthearted spirit could brighten even the most ordinary day. He was also the kind of person who would lend a helping hand to anyone—often before they even asked, and sometimes whether they wanted it or not. If something needed fixing, a hand was needed moving furniture, or just someone to listen, Mat was there. He was an excellent father and husband.
Mat leaves behind his wife, Melissa, and their 15-year-old daughter, Kendall.
He will be deeply missed by his family, his many friends, and everyone in the neighborhood whose lives he touched with his kindness, generosity, and humor. His presence left the community brighter, and his memory will continue to do the same.
Rest in peace, Mat. You will never be forgotten.
