Obituary

Peter Douglas Carmichael of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, after a brief period of declining health.  His family was by his side.

Peter was born on August 3, 1949, in Keene, New Hampshire to John and Trudy (Gertrude Emerson) Carmichael.  The family moved several times, but Peter considered Andover, MA his home. He graduated from Andover High School and later Northeastern University.  Peter was employed by The Singer Company and eventually became a District Manager.  That job took him to Ohio (Go Bucks), Virginia and eventually Georgia.  As the sewing industry declined, he joined Georgia Security as a salesman and eventually became National Sales Manager with First Alert Professional and later Vice President of Scott Alarm.  After the boredom of retirement set in, he worked part time locally for Loud Security and Cobb EMC.  Peter loved direct sales and also mentoring young salespeople.  He was the consummate ABC salesman – Always Be Closing.

Peter loved his wife Elizabeth and son David. He was a devoted family man, always cheering their accomplishments.  He rarely ever was able to say no to anything they wanted.  He also loved sports and reading.  He played golf, tennis, and walked several miles daily for exercise.    He was an avid fan of Boston teams, especially the Red Sox.  Reading was a lifelong hobby and rarely was he found without a book by his side.    Peter travelled widely for work and pleasure, but two locations were dear to his heart. He loved sitting on the balcony or walking by the ocean at New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  He also loved his wife's hometown of North Adams, MA.  The food, scenery and people were unsurpassed in his opinion, and he dearly loved the drive over the Mohawk Trail.  For 40 years Peter hosted Thanksgiving dinner for upwards to 25 friends.  He was certainly the host with the most!  He also hosted a smaller gathering on Christmas Eve for special neighbors.

Peter is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Gagliardi) whom he married on Feb. 17, 1979, and his son David, and fiancée Stephani and future stepson Jonathon.  He is also survived by a brother, Thomas Carmichael of Milford, NH; a sister-in-law Margart McKane (Paul) of Massachusetts, one nephew, Michael Coy and two nieces, Caron Sharp and Betsy McKane.  He was predeceased by his parents, John and Trudy Carmichael, his sister Susan Coy and her husband Greg, as well as two nephews, Kevin Coy and Brian Coy.

Arrangements are being handled by Lakeside Funeral Home in Woodstock, GA. Per Peters request there will be no viewing or service.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date. To honor Peter, the family suggests donations to any local food bank.  Remember him fondly and raise a glass.  He lived well, laughed often, and loved deeply.
