Peter Keith Geoffrey Newman
November 25, 1949 - January 27, 2020
Peter lived a storied life of adventure. Born in Kongwa, Tanganyika to Don and Molly Newman, British overlanders who were travelling the length of Africa after WWII.
He grew up in modern day Zimbabwe with his younger sisters, Susan and Marilyn, moving from town to town as his father worked as an electrical engineer building the early infrastructure of the country.
In 1969 he met his beloved Bridget, and they were married in 1973. Soon after, they were blessed with four children, Derek, Kevin, Gayle and Michelle.
Peter's business career started at a young age and it was soon clear that he had a knack for the world of finance and management, with a strong entrepreneurial streak.
The family moved to South Africa in 1984 where he continued in various business endeavors, the most recent of which led Peter and Bridget to emigrate to the United States in 2003 where they settled in Atlanta, forming many close friendships.
Peter was a devout Christian and spent a large part of his life studying the scripture and helping many people on a personal level. His steadfast faith will remain a source of strength to many.
Peter had such a deep love for his immediate family as well as his sisters-in-law Trish, Jaynee, Rosalie and Carol; his brothers-in-law John, Brian, Mike, Patrick, Alan, Pete, Jim and Chris; father-in-law Basil, mother-in-law Emmeline; nephews Michael, Dale, Trevor, Matthew, Brian, Robert and David; nieces Donna, Melanie, Lauren, Kiera, Haley, Aimee, Carly and Belinda; sons-in-law Jay and Eehab; daughter-in-law Chantal; grandchildren Jesse, Rachel, Sarah, Jared and Eesa; many other dear friends, extended family and business partners around the world including Africa, Europe, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
All of us who loved him feel a great loss and miss him more and more as each day goes by, but Peter's presence on this earth is remembered in many ways.
His sharp wit and keen sense of humor always made light of any difficult situation and his wise words, given with such grace and humility, will continue to guide our lives.
Above all, we remember his kindness to people of all walks of life.
Rest in peace.
