Richard was born on February 14th, 1931 in Rockford, Illinois; the first son to Winona and Vincente Ruiz. He moved to Greenville, SC in 1949 to attend Bob Jones University where he later met and married the love of his life on March 27th, 1952. Dick & JoAnn built a beautiful life together. God blessed them, with just shy of, 69 years of marriage; 6 children, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. He loved his family unconditionally.
Dick knew that Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins so that all who receive him may enter into Heaven. He shared that message through his words and his actions with everyone he met and because of his unwavering faith in God he lived a full life of joy and happiness.
Dick could laugh at any situation, no matter how severe. He was never judgmental of anyone; a gentle man who led by example and was always eager to roll up his sleeves and get to work.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Ruiz; sister, Edith Ford; sons, Phillip and Steven Ruiz. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Ruiz, his children, Vincent & Tracy Ruiz, Karen Hutcheson & Renty Haney, along with all of his grandchildren. Dick Ruiz was an inspiration to so many. His 89 years left a lasting impression in the lives of all that knew him, and we look forward to the day that we see him again. "May we so live to enjoy that day when the Lord may say to us, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." - Matthew 25:21
Instead of flowers the family asks that you give someone a big hug in remembrance of Dick "grampa" Ruiz.
A service will be held to celebrate his life and 90th birthday at Woodstock First Baptist; the family invites all who loved him to attend. The service will also be available via live stream for anyone interested in being a part from home.
