Rufus Gordon Hice, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on July 27, 2026. Born in 1948 to Alton Lester Hice, Sr. and Omi Lee Rogers Hice, Gordon will be remembered by those who loved him as a generous, faithful, and deeply devoted man whose steady presence brought comfort to family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Ralph R. Miller; his sister, Emily Hice Crittenden; his brothers, Alton Hice, Jr. and William Raymond Hice; and his beloved wife, Debra Holliday Hice.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his brother, John Hice; sisters-in-law, Jean Hice, Melanie Hice, and Teresa Hice; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who knew him not only as family, but as a kind and dependable presence in their lives. Friends, neighbors, and church communities in Alabama and Georgia, most recently East Cobb Baptist Church, will remember his gentle humor, loving nature, and strong faith.
Born into an extended family in Thomaston, Georgia, Gordon spent much of his early life traveling as the son of a career Army soldier, experiences that helped shape his independence, resilience, and appreciation for home. He completed grade school and college in Columbus, Georgia, then began his career as a CPA in the textile industry before building a successful accounting consulting business of his own. His success reflected long hours, disciplined effort, and a strong sense of responsibility, but those closest to him will also remember the everyday ways he showed care. Outside of work, Gordon was an adventurous scuba diver, a skilled gardener, and an avid fisherman who found joy in simple pleasures and shared them freely. He loved children throughout his life and often brought them joy with his friendly nature and small treats shared generously. He also devoted many years to caring for his mother, his stepfather, and his wife, offering love in the quiet, faithful way that defined him.
Gordon's life was shaped by faith, generosity, humor, and steadfast love for the people around him. He gave of himself quietly and consistently, whether through care for family, kindness to children, loyalty to friends, or service within his church communities. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and church communities, and his memory will live on in the stories, gratitude, and affection of the many lives he touched. Service details will be shared with family and friends when arrangements are complete.
