Sandra Carol Dalton Cox, devoted mother, adored sister, lifelong educator, beloved friend, and thoughtful neighbor, passed away as she always wanted, safe inside her home in Woodstock, Georgia on February 19, 2024.
Born on May 25, 1954 in Lynchburg, Virginia, Sandy lived a life filled with love, laughter, learning, and profound kindness. She touched the hearts of all who knew her with her unwavering compassion and love, forever advice, and humor that knew no bounds.
Sandy Cox was not only a remarkable woman but also a devoted mother and best friend to Kimberly and Kelsey, and the best DeeDee this world has ever seen to her sweet and special grandbabies. Her unconditional love, guidance, and unwavering support were the foundation upon which her family thrived. She was their rock in times of need, their confidante in times of joy, and her daily calls to them every single day will be deeply missed.
Throughout her life, Sandy embraced each day with a big smile, giant laugh, and most of all, grace and love. In addition to her role as the greatest mother in the whole wide world, Sandy was a dedicated academic, teacher, professor, school Principal, and lifelong learner where she excelled with passion and determination. Her commitment to excellence and her unwavering work ethic served as an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
Sandy is survived by her cherished forever babies Kimberly Anne Frazier (Mike), Kelsey Cox Jordan (Scotty), her adoring sister and lifelong best friend Patsy Dalton Bledsoe (Jimmy), nephew Brandon Bledsoe, her beloved grandchildren Ford, Rowan, Ryleigh, and Kaleigh, former husband Logan Thomas Cox, as well as numerous neighbors, friends, and community members all of whom she still holds dear to her heart.
She is preceded in death by her other adoring sister Linda Lee Dalton, parents Robert Lee and Bertie Mae Dalton, who will forever hold down the fort in Athens, Georgia... Go Dawgs!
A celebration of Sandy's life will be held on Saturday March 2, 2024 at Lakeside Funeral Home in Woodstock, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests a book donation brought to the service, as the date of her final resting occurs on Read Across America Day AND Dr. Suess's birthday; only fitting for the biggest reader and teacher any of us have ever known. We will donate the books to DeeDee's grandchildren's schools.
Though Sandy may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion that will continue to inspire generations to come.
Remind yourself during this devastating time, "God broke our hearts to prove to us: he only takes the best."
