Santo Scacco was passionate about family, opera, travel, his friends, gardening, golf, good food, and the Atlanta Braves.
Santo was a kind and genuine man who lived life to the fullest and was a true friend to others. He was generous, ethical, funny, warm, encouraging, and was always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved his daughters Lori and Debra deeply, and he instilled in them a curiosity for learning and the arts, and a commitment to kindness and supporting others. His greatest love was his wife Vicky, and he cherished every day of their 60 years of marriage.
Santo was born the first of two children to Vita and Biagio Scacco on March 11th, 1935 in Vizzini, Italy. He immigrated to NY's Lower East Side with his family at the age of 14. He studied cabinetry at Chelsea Vocational High School and in 1960 joined the Army Reserves while going to night school at Brooklyn College. Santo went on to become a telecommunications engineer, and in 1985 his job with AT&T brought his family to Georgia, where he lived happily for the rest of his life. There he became deeply involved in the Order of the Sons of Italy, where he proudly served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years and made countless lifelong friends whom he adored. In his retirement, he fully embraced his love of travel. He and Vicky enjoyed many trips and cruises around the world, including cherished and unforgettable family trips to Australia and his hometown of Vizzini, and a 50th anniversary family vacation in Hawaii.
Santo Scacco passed away peacefully at home on May 30th, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Santo is survived by his loving wife Vicky; by his children, Lori Scacco (Ann Stephenson) of New York City, and Debra Scacco (Nic Griffiths) of Los Angeles; and by his nephew, Joseph Messina (Rosemarie) of Staten Island. Santo is also remembered by many family members and friends from the United States to Italy to Australia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vita & Biagio Scacco, and by his sister, Frances Messina.
A funeral mass is planned for Friday August 9th at St. Ann's Catholic Church at 11am. The mass may also be streamed at
