Stanley Michael Ruszkowski, Jr. ("Stan"), age 73, passed away on April 30, 2026.
Stan was born on January 3, 1953, in the Bronx, New York, to Stanley Ruszkowski, Sr. and Gloria Ruszkowski, both of whom preceded him in death. He spent his early childhood in the Bronx before moving to Plainview, New York in the fourth grade.
He attended the State University of New York at Binghamton, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1975, followed by a Master of Science in Accounting in May 1977. While in college, he met Karen Kuhrt, whom he married on September 10, 1977. Though their marriage ended in divorce two years ago, their relationship brought into the world their two sons, who remained the center of Stan's life.
In a story that became part of family lore, Stan won $20,000 in the New York State Lottery, with the check presented to him by Frank Sinatra. That moment helped provide the foundation for the next chapter of his life, as he and Karen moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where Stan began his career with what is now Ernst & Young through Bickman Libby Thomas Braxton. He worked there until 1984 and went on to spend many years as a Certified Public Accountant, working across a variety of roles and directly with clients throughout his career. In recent years, he developed a passion as a movie producer enthusiast, embracing creativity and storytelling.
Stan was a devoted father to Andrew Ruszkowski and Scotty Ruszkowski, and a proud father-in-law to Erin Ruszkowski and Susan Ruszkowski. He was a loving and proud "Papa" to his grandchildren—Luke, Austin, and Myles—who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Anne Lord and Robert Ruszkowski.
A man deeply committed to his family and community, Stan was a longtime member of Briarlake Baptist Church, where he was actively involved during his sons' childhood—coaching basketball, baseball, and soccer, and supporting youth in the church. He served for over 30 years as a board member of Lekotek of Georgia, an organization dedicated to providing accessible play and technology for children with disabilities and promoting inclusion within families, schools, and communities. He was also a member of the Tucker branch of Optimist International.
Stan will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the genuine care he showed to others. He had a way of connecting with people, always willing to lend a hand or offer support to those in need.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 2, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM at Lakeside Funeral Home. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Enon Cemetery.
The family is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lekotek of Georgia in Stan's honor.
Stan's legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the community he served, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
