Steven Harvey Abernathy passed away suddenly on April 14, 2021, at his home. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 15 years Stephanie, and his two daughters whom he lived for and adored, Sophia and Shay – called "Bugs" and "Butters" by their daddy. He also leaves behind his mother Gay Abernathy, father John Abernathy III, and brother John Abernathy IV.
Steven's devotion to his entire family was clear to all who had the pleasure of meeting him. His true joy was spending time with his wife and daughters, whom he made his first priority. The opportunity to share with them his love of mountain biking in recent months and years was a particular highlight. They often went on outdoor adventures and vacations and were always together creating memories. Whether a big event or small, every moment in a small circle together or a larger one with friends seemed a special occasion thanks to Steven's good humor and zest for life. His mother's recent move back to Atlanta to be closer to him and his family meant the world to Steven.
Second only to his family, was Steven's amazing ability to befriend and help others. Throughout his life, whether being a childhood best friend, helping someone get a job, or providing a recommendation for someone he knew, his passion was to do for others before himself. His arms and heart were always open and made him instantly connect with others, and he gave generously of himself to every community he touched. His concern and compassion for others were rare and true.
He was a dedicated provider for his family. After enjoying a successful career in Dallas, Texas, he moved his family back to his hometown of Atlanta in 2017. While Steven often shared his happy memories of his young family's earliest days in McKinney, Texas, he was overjoyed to create new memories in Marietta, Georgia. With his family's support, he found great success and real joy as a Director of Business Development at Hire Dynamics.
Steven was a graduate of Lakeside High School and cherished the memories and friendships made there. He proudly graduated from Georgia State University and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan throughout his life. He watched every game and would talk for hours on the subject of his favorite team. He named the family's beloved bulldog, "Georgia."
Steven Abernathy was beloved by his friends and family. He will be missed by all who knew him, whether for 50 years or five minutes. He was so proud of his family, and his legacy will live on through them and as a testament to the man, son, friend, husband and father that he was in his short 51 years on this Earth. More than one called him "brother."
Friends are welcome at Lakeside Funeral Home, 121 Claremore Drive in Woodstock, Georgia, for an outdoor memorial service on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at 2 p.m. A reception will follow the service.
